A confrontation between a DoorDash delivery driver and an elderly male Karen went down in Chick-fil-A recently, and the heated back-and-forth has drawn a lot of attention online. Specifically, the incident reportedly took place at the University Park Mall restaurant in Mishawaka, Indiana, and since the tense interaction was caught on camera, it’s currently circulating across social media.
The video is recorded by the DoorDash delivery driver, and takes place at the Chick-fil-A counter. The male Karen is waiting for his food order, and the delivery worker has approached the counter and is attempting to ask the staff for a drink to go along with his DoorDash order. As soon as the delivery driver is stood at the counter, however, the male Karen — who is still waiting for his order — chips in with, “I don’t know why he thinks it’s good to keep walking in front of me, but, whatever.” The accompanying description in the video reads, “*Literally about to ask for help mid breath*“
The DoorDash employee then explains why he’s had to approach the Chick-fil-A staff, saying, “I’m trying to get a drink, sir, for a DoorDash.” Leaning on the counter and sporting a blue Seinfeld t-shirt, grey cargo shorts, and a black cap, the male Karen expresses, “Okay. Well, I’m trying to wait for my order. Doesn’t mean you keep walking in front of me.” Stood next to the elderly male Karen is a young girl, who presumably could be the man’s daughter, and she looks a little uncomfortable.
As the Karen chuckles to himself, the delivery driver says, “No need to get aggressive about it.” and turns away from him. All of a sudden, things quickly take a turn for the worse, though. “You don’t have to be an a**hole about it or I’ll f***ing punch you in the f***ing face.” the man fires back at the delivery driver, in a threatening manner. In disbelief, the driver retorts, “You’re gonna punch me in the face?” To this, the male Karen simply fires back, “I might,” with a chuckle as he points at the camera, insinuating that the phone that’s recording his every move is what’s probably stopping him from getting even more aggressive.
“Just because of the camera here, you’re not going to do it?” declares the shocked DoorDash driver. “Dude, just get the f***outta my face.” the male Karen replies, leaning on the counter. In an attempt to reason with the man, the delivery worker answers, “Dude, I’m just trying to do my job right now.” although the man replies with yet another threat, “–before I whip your a** right now. You don’t think I can whoop your a**.” The young girl next to the male Karen looks increasingly nervous as tensions rise.
“I’ve got good insurance. Let’s go.” retorts the driver, who seems unfazed by the man’s threats of violence. As the delivery driver turns to face the counter, the male Karen moves in and goes toe-to-toe with him, threateningly. “Wanna do it?” the driver replies. Angrily, the man states, “Turn your f***ing camera off, little boy.”
The heated face-off continues with the Karen pleading with the delivery driver to turn off his camera, so that he can instigate the fight properly. With tensions intensifying, the man exclaims, “Get the f** out of my face now!” as he starts to push and shove the young delivery driver. In the footage, a description flashes up that reads, “*I use my left hand to put pressure above his eye to throw him off*”
Thankfully, an unexpected stranger intervenes and puts an end to the brief scuffle. “Hey, hey, hey, hey! Chill out, man. This is a public place.” states the passerby, putting a hand on the male Karen’s chest in a bid to calm him down. Notably, the stranger is quite tall and looks very well built. The delivery driver’s knight in shining armor explains, “He got a DoorDash in his backpack. He was standing by here for a minute. Don’t disrespect him like that. Don’t do it. You’re a grown a** man and he’s a little kid. You can see his eyes. Just chill out. Don’t do stuff like that in public, man. You’ll embarrass the people that you’re with.” gesturing towards the male Karen’s young companion next to him. Clearly, the Karen visibly looks a little embarrassed by the interaction. Ending the clip, the delivery driver writes in a description that he finally got the drink that he’s been waiting for.
While the video continues to make the rounds on social media, viewers took to the comments to share their views. One commenter on TikTok, who is presumably the daughter of the stranger who saved the day, wrote: “This Is My Dad That Stood Up For Him!” On a more sombre note, however, one user penned, “I can’t imagine what his wife and kids have to deal with at home.” Lastly, another commenter found it amusing how quickly things de-escalated when the friendly stranger intervened, expressing, “He didn’t keep that same energy with the big dude 🤣”
