An impromptu stunt at Las Vegas’s McCarran International Airport (now officially Harry Reid International) left passengers bewildered after a man broke onto the runway and attempted to board a departing plane… via the wing.
Captured on video, the barefoot daredevil scaled the aircraft’s wing, seemingly confident in his unconventional travel plans. However, his plans ended abruptly when police officers joined him on the wing in an attempt to talk him down. The added pressure (or maybe just a lack of proper wing-walking technique) led to him losing his grip and falling to the tarmac below, where officers quickly took him into custody.
Passengers and onlookers had no shortage of opinions on the matter, with Reddit providing the usual goldmine of reactions. “This guy gonna stay in Vegas for what happened in Vegas,” one user quipped. Others questioned his long-term strategy: “Man, he almost made it! If only he had successfully climbed to the top of that winglet he would’ve… wait, I don’t see how making it onto that winglet was going to help him at all now that I think about it. Did this guy just not have a plan?” One laughed “No strategy—just winging it.”
Speculation about his motivations ranged from overconfidence to poor life choices. “He had a concept of a plan,” one user joked, with another adding, “He had definitely consumed the drugs of a plan.” Meanwhile, others saw a missed opportunity: “IMHO, I’d clear the pilot for takeoff just to see how long he hangs on!”
The incident caused a delay as maintenance crews inspected the aircraft to ensure no damage had been done. Fortunately, no passengers or crew were harmed… aside from, presumably, the man’s pride.
As one user put it, “Sir, I don’t think that’s an approved seating upgrade.”
