Almost all grocery stores allow pets inside as long as they are certified service animals. However, plenty of people in the world see those signs as an invitation to bring any well-behaved dog, regardless of whether it’s a service dog or not. Of course, there are many reasons why you shouldn’t do this. For one, it simply isn’t sanitary to do. Second, it brings on an unreal understanding that people with disabilities are only bringing service dogs to public places because they simply want to, not because they need to. Fortunately, one man at a Costco decided to give his opinion on a dog sitting inside a grocery cart and posted it to Tiktok.
The video starts with a gentleman walking inside the grocery store and immediately going up to someone checking out. Inside the cart that this person was emptying to pay was a dog. No, it wasn’t a service animal that was trained to help the woman with a medical emergency. It was just a regular dog, sitting in the cart, on top of all of the food. Of course, the woman who was approached didn’t think this was a problem at all. However, maybe she didn’t consider that some people must reuse those carts afterward.
She isn’t the only person in the world who will be using that same cart on that day. It’s terrifying to think that someone with an intense allergy could have used the cart to take their foodstuff home. Commenters were quick to agree with the person recording the video.
“Finally somebody said something!!! I get so sicka this!!! Then we gotta use the carts.”
Others in the comments also noted the fact that the dog was in the cart during the whole shopping trip. It didn’t seem like management approached the woman or told her to remove her dog from the shopping cart. It really makes you second-guess publicly used items such as shopping carts, shopping baskets, and even the items sold in these stores for fear that a random passerby will let their animals walk all over them.
