A man detained by ICE has released a series of TikTok videos revealing the inhumane conditions at the Krome Detention Facility in Miami. Detentions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement are an increasingly common sight under the Trump administration. Rarely, however, do we get a first-hand look inside ICE facilities. The video’s creator, an undocumented American known as osiriss982 on TikTok, has shared footage of men sleeping on the floor and chairs. Many have reportedly been detained for more than a month without due process, effectively abducted by the U.S. government.
New TikToks Show the Harsh Realities of Miami ICE
Stories of ICE detentions are becoming more common as well as more horrific. In one video shot within the Krome Detention Center operated by ICE in Miami, osiriss982 describes sick men denied access to medical care. He begs for others to share his story. He also pleads with Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum for aid, saying there are Mexicans, Guatemalans, and Venezuelans detained within. Tensions between the U.S. and its southern neighbor are already high. Abductions like these will only make things worse.
One TikTok video by osiriss982 garnered over 51k lives. It also drew comments expressing both support for him and horror at his treatment. One commenter begged others to help, saying, “PLEASE CALL HUMAN SERVICES, PLEASE MAKE THIS VIDEO VIRAL! HELP THEM GET JUSTICE! THEY ARE BEING TREATED INHUMANE!” Another commenter offered a translation of the detained man’s message, saying,
Translation: help, we’re at the [Krome Detention Center] in Miami. We’re basically kidnapped. we’ve been here for 20 days, some for a month with no communication. A lot of us are sleeping on the ground [Sic]
The Krome Detention Center in Miami is only one facility in a network that now includes a planned 30,000-bed camp at Guantanamo Bay. Public abductions and the silencing of the free press are increasingly becoming the law of the land in the U.S. At least thanks to brave people like osiriss982, the story of these injustices can be told.
