The internet can be a conflicting place. There are times where you lose all faith in humanity because of a clip depicting a middle-aged woman harassing minors, and then have your whole thought process changed because of a video of a dog ringing a doorbell to go back home. However, sometimes, you’ll watch a video so interesting that you stay thinking about it for a while afterward. That’s what happened after I saw a video posted to Reddit concerning North Carolina law, alcohol, and horses. Yes, you read all of that right.
The video depicts a man on horseback with a beer in his hand explaining something to an out-of-frame passerby. What is he explaining, you ask? That in the state of North Carolina, you cannot get a DUI while on a horse. He urges the people to look it up to verify for themselves that it’s true so, that’s exactly what I did.
The comments also included various people who also had to look up whether this was true. To my surprise, and to the surprise of many of the commenters in the replies, the man is technically right.
“Had to look it up, he’s right.”
You can get a DWI in North Carolina while riding a bicycle or operating a vehicle but not while riding a horse. I guess that a horse won’t intentionally try to do something dangerous just because its rider wants it to. However, I’m not the state of North Carolina, so I don’t know how specific that law is.
Others in the comments unknowingly agree with me, even going so far as to say that the horse is actually in on the whole thing.
“Horse is designated driver.”
Hopefully, the man on horseback got home safely and wasn’t stopped by anyone else with a beer in his hand. I wonder if the video would have gone down differently if a cop had stopped him instead.
