Vacations are supposed to be a fun time away from home, for much-needed relaxation. So, why would somebody want to take this fun time and turn it into a disaster? This is exactly what happened to one redditor while in Florida for a Fourth of July vacation with his girlfriend and young son. Now, chaos struck and he’s asking, “AITAH if I leave my girlfriend on vacation?” and decides to return home without her and her drama.
OP made his post on r/AITAH, stating he went on vacation to Florida during Independence Day with his 26-year-old girlfriend and their 6-year-old child. They went to a theme park that was serving alcohol and his girlfriend was drinking. OP went to the bathroom and when he returned to his girlfriend, she was fighting with a family of three. Why? Because one of their children kicked over her drink by accident. OP tried to calm down his girlfriend in front of the apologetic family but then the police got involved. Instead of just leaving the area, OP’s girlfriend tried to argue with police and security.
When OP’s girlfriend finally calmed down, they left the park. On the way to their hotel, his girlfriend got angry, started to punch him, and told him and their son to get out of the vehicle. They called an Uber and went to a separate hotel. OP said this made his girlfriend angrier and she went into a nearby establishment and started to raise more trouble. The police showed up and sent her to a hospital because of how belligerent she was acting. Now, OP is asking, “AITA if I just take my son and get on our flight in the morning without her?”
It’s clear OP is fed up with the chaotic way his girlfriend acts when she’s had a little alcohol. There could even be an underlying problem there and OP has to consider his safety and livelihood, and especially his son. Commenters on Reddit shared the same sentiment.
One commenter stated, “She got violent and put you and your son in a scary situation. Your priority is your child’s safety. Take him and go home. You can deal with everything else after, but right now, getting him out of that chaos is the right move.” Others told him, “Time to go permanently” and that leaving the relationship altogether might be the best move.
Others have questioned why a theme park is selling alcohol but, apparently, this is a common thing. One person explained, “I used to work at a children’s park in Florida and the amount of parents that get sloppy drunk there is disturbing.” Why take your kids to a theme park if you’re getting drunk, anyway? It further proves the point some people shouldn’t have kids!
