A male DJ in New York City, New York, was shown attempting to hijack another woman’s DJ set and party by claiming the whole event was his. He then touched and moved the knobs on the DJ’s set, eventually earning him a security throw-out.
The tense moment was shared online by HOPESTARXX. She is a DJ who often shares highlights of her sets while in the studio and in venues. The clip attached above became her biggest one yet, garnering 1.1 million views, 159,600 likes, and more than 2,700 comments.
The New York DJ was performing at the Backroom of Pianos, a very prominent club in Manhattan. During his set, a man approached her, who was subsequently identified as Cartier.mp7 (Cartier), and told her it was her event. Confused, HOPESTARXX told him, “What do you mean, your event?“
“Uhh… It’s my event from the front room, upstairs, and the Backroom,” Cartier said. “But overall, this is my event. Not even like that, but I know this is your event, too. I’m doing the sound for that [the other event] and this [HOPESTARXX’s event], too.”
Turning Knobs
The woman knew, for a fact, that each of Pianos’ areas is booked separately. She told him she had booked the Backroom for the night up to 4 a.m. Additionally, she also knew the actual sound engineer for her event, which she told Cartier about. The man didn’t budge.
“Overall, I’m not even really doing anything. I’m just making sure you [expletive] is good and whoever comes up is good,” he added. He then told HOPESTARXX that he was going to hop on at 1:35 a.m.
The female DJ wasn’t a fan of that, and a back-and-forth ensued. She ignored it when he asked if he could hop on at 1:45 a.m. instead, and then Cartier left. Briefly. He came back when the other female DJ began her set. Things got heated, as the clip showed Cartier touching the equipment and turning the knobs.
HOPESTARXX tried to fix the turned knobs, but the man wouldn’t stop. She eventually called a security guard, and the New York man was removed.
Reactions
The clip sparked multiple reactions, mainly from viewers who were adamant about calling the male DJ out. One said, “He wouldn’t have done that to a man.” Another one commented, “So he was jealous and tried to sabotage you.”
Others took issue with how Cartier continued to escalate. One wrote, “I lost it when he started turning the knobs.” Another one added, “Him acting like he was DJing is crazy.”
HOPESTARXX explained in the video’s description that Cartier was organizing the upstairs event. People preferred the Backroom, leading to what was seen in the clip. He ended up apologizing online.
