Where do we draw the line between what should be considered discrimination and what is just a choice? A man wearing a wine-colored wig called out a dress store in Maryland for denying him a job because of its policy of hiring only women.
“Hi, everyone, it’s Emily. I’m here at the Wheaton Mall, Maryland,” he began in a video posted on X. The man explained that despite the sign outside signalling that the dress store was hiring, “I just went in and asked if I could be hired, and they told me I couldn’t because I’m not a woman, and only a woman can work at that job,” tilting his head to either side with each sentence. “So, Cinderella, at Wheaton Mall, you’re on notice. Sorry,” he said sarcastically as he switched the camera to capture the store in question.
Many X users were more bothered by the store’s policy than by the man’s intentions and audacity. “The entitlement is so bad that they do not care how mental this makes the movement look,” one wrote in the comments. “As a real bloke, I wouldn’t dream of applying for a job like that. He is just trying to cause trouble,” another added. “Funny how they always seem to flock to jobs where they will be alone with young girls,” one netizen pointed out. Someone else wondered, “How would he react to a woman who turned down his offer of assistance in the changing room?”
Some Maryland netizens were appalled by the idea. “Would you want his MAN helping our daughter change in the dressing room at the Wheaton Mall?” one asked, emphasizing the fact that the person in question was a man despite his wig. “That Cinderella dress store doesn’t either. GOOD JOB, CINDERELLA’S !!” Another user asked, “Why is it always about threats? Ok! Let’s reframe! There we go, play by the sword…” A second one chimed in, “How did we get to a place where men can threaten businesses because they won’t let him put his hands all over women and girls while they’re trying on clothes?”
One X user stated, “He has no business applying for a job like that. Any woman with a brain wouldn’t want him touching them.” One user appreciated the Maryland store sincerely, “I worked at a preschool, and they also refused to hire men. Some jobs are not for men. Thank you to the shop owner for protecting women. We appreciate you!” A last user asked, “What’s all the head tilting about? Does that make him think he looks like a woman?”
