A California woman was taking a walk in her Los Angeles neighborhood, where she claims the “sidewalks are narrow.” To make matters worse, a man with his dog walked up to her and questioned why she didn’t move out of his way since there wasn’t room for all of them on the sidewalk. This kicked off a confrontation that left her feeling baffled and annoyed.
TikToker @banbeige was walking in Los Angeles when she came across a man and his dog on the sidewalk. The man yelled out to her, “You’re gonna make me and my dog walk in the street?” when she didn’t get off the sidewalk for him. After she stopped and started recording him, she says he started “mansplaining his entitlement to the sidewalk.”
The man tells the TikToker, “It’s harder to get out of the way of a car. So I know you feel entitled to the sidewalk, but call me entitled to the sidewalk? It’s a shared entitlement.” He continues to berate her about the fact that she didn’t move out of his way onto the street so he and his dog could keep walking. The man replies: “I assume you’re smart, as a human being. It’s harder to maneuver a person and a dog. I’ll do my best to stay out of your way.”
The entire time, the TikToker says nothing to him and lets him continue on speaking in this degrading manner. When he’s done mansplaining, he tells her he’s willing to hear her speak and just stands there, staring at her. In shock, she says, “We’re all good, man.” He walks away from her, grumbling about how she’s recording him.
Commenters immediately reacted to the video, sharing their opinions about the way she was treated by this random man. One commenter pointed out, “My nana always said these types of men just talk to hear their own voice.” Another commenter stated, “I would’ve walked away mid-sentence.”
Commenters shared how annoyed they are by how men approach women in today’s society, opening up a variety of conversations. As one commenter pointed out, “The reason so many men don’t believe women when we tell them about our experiences with men is because they do NOT treat each other in the same way. I highly doubt this man would approach another man in the same way. I’m sorry this happened to you.”
Commenters continue to share their opinions and personal stories dealing with similar confrontations with men on her post, turning one frustrating sidewalk encounter into a much broader conversation about entitlement, public spaces, and how quickly an everyday interaction can become unnecessarily heated.
