A recent surprise reveal from Nintendo gave fans the news that the Nintendo 64 classic Mario Party 3 will be the next game coming to Nintendo Switch Online’s N64 catalog. The 2001 title received mixed reception upon its release but has been hailed as one of the best Mario Party entries in recent years.
Nintendo’s N64 catalog for the Switch Online service has been a bit controversial. Its reveal was met with a lot of backlash after the reveal that players would have to pay an additional fee on top of what they were already paying for access to NSO’s catalog of Game Boy, NES, and SNES games. Still, as time has gone on, many Switch players have come to appreciate the premium subscription that now comes with access to N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy Advance titles, especially with new entries coming regularly, the latest being the couch co-op classic Mario Party 3.
Mario Party 3 on Nintendo Switch
The reveal of Mario Party 3 coming to Nintendo Switch Online dropped on Nintendo’s official YouTube account on October 25th and has already been generating some excitement among the Mario Party community. This is the first time the party game has been made available across any of Nintendo’s past or present virtual consoles, and it will be released only a couple of days after the official reveal on October 27th.
Up until Super Mario Party, the series was a bit infamous for not implementing online play despite seemingly being the perfect franchise for such a feature. The ability to play online co-op with friends via NSO will make Mario Party 3 one of the only titles in the franchise with online capabilities besides the most recent entries, which should be a treat for diehard fans, even though some of the boards from the game had already been made available in Mario Party Superstars.
Mario Party 3 is launching on Nintendo Switch Online’s N64 catalog on October 27th.
