The highly anticipated next entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Eternals, will premiere at the Rome Film Festival. Eternals is the third film in the phase IV lineup of the MCU and is directed by Chloe Zhao, who just won the Academy Award for Best Director for Nomadland which also won Best Picture. Eternals features a massive star-studded cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Kit Harington, and Salma Hayek. The cast is incredibly diverse and it will feature Marvel’s first LGBTQ+ family.

The film has a currently scheduled release date of Nov. 5 for the U.S. and U.K. However, according to a report from Variety, many will be able to watch it on Oct. 24 as Marvel’s Eternals will premiere in Italy at the Rome Film Festival. The festival is running from Oct. 14-Oct. 24. The festival will also be celebrating Quentin Tarantino and Tim Burton with lifetime achievement awards.

Eternals was originally scheduled to release in November 2020 but was delayed by a year due to the pandemic. Disney was considering the possibility of a hybrid release on Disney+, similar to Black Widow. However, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ success at the box office with an exclusive theatrical release has shown that Eternals can still be immensely popular, even with the pandemic.

The new film will follow an immortal group known as Eternals, who have superhuman abilities and have been living on Earth for thousands of years. While unable to interfere, the group must reunite to defeat another powerful species known as deviants.

The trailers released online have made fans excited, but have created plenty of questions. One big question Marvel fans have is why the Eternals didn’t assist the Avengers in taking down Thanos. Eternals will also dive deeper into the galactic side of Marvel with the return of Celestials. Fans are wondering who the celestials shown in the trailers are and why they may be important going forward. Many of these questions should be answered when the film is released in early November.
