Marvel has announced that it is celebrating Free Comic Book Day with a new story in its Marvel’s Voices series. The issue, Marvel’s Voices #1, will reintroduce readers to the diverse series with a new adventure starring Moon Girl. This unique series focuses on creators and characters from diverse backgrounds and cultures throughout the Marvel Universe. As such, it will include several other Marvel’s Voices stories.
What is Marvel’s Voices?
Marvel’s Voices is an acclaimed podcast series that takes a deep dive into the diverse storytellers behind the comics. The podcast’s success eventually led to a series of one-shots of the same name. These one-shots would allow creators to give their unique perspectives on Marvel superheroes.
From the experiences of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ creators and fans, the series shows off Marvel’s ever-evolving world. The one-shots also offer interviews, stories, and other forms of media to create a clear picture of the world around us. Therefore, this Free Comic Book Day issue will reintroduce the print version of the series to readers old and new.
Who Will It Feature?
This Free Comic Book Day issue will bring a new adventure starring Moon Girl to readers. Moon Girl’s outing will be written by Nadia Shammas and drawn by Luciano Vecchio. Coincidentally, Moon Girl was meant to have her own series launching next month, but that seems to have been scrapped. Meanwhile, this issue will also reprint past stories from the series featuring diverse characters, including:
- Brother Voodoo in Marvel’s Voice (2020) #1
- Marvel’s Indigenous Voices (2020) #1
- Miles Morales in Marvel Voices: Legacy (2021) #1
- Wave and Bishop in Marvel’s Voices: Identity (2021) #1
- LGBTQ+ Representation in Marvel’s Voices: Pride (2021) #1
- X-Men’s Shark Girl in Marvel’s Voices: Comunidades (2021) #1
What is Free Comic Book Day?
Marvel’s Voices #1 will be available on May 7 or Free Comic Book Day. Free Comic Book Day is an annual event where comics are offered for free. These issues are meant to draw new readers into the world of comics. Meanwhile, this issue is just one of three comics that Marvel is offering this year. The other two will focus on Spider-Man and the X-Men.
