Maryland Children Sue Grandmother For ‘Nefarious’ Dispute After Mother’s Murder: ‘Top Level Evil’

Maryland murder victim, Rachel Morin, was killed on a hiking trail in 2023. Following her tragic death Rachel’s mother and sister created a GoFundMe page to collect donations for her five children. The donations have included money as well as gifts that were meant for her children. However, now the children are claiming that their grandmother and aunt have refused to share the money with them and are now suing their family members for withholding the donations meant for Morin’s children.

Rachel Morin left behind five children between the ages of 9 and 19. Those children have now filed a suit against Rachel’s mother, Patty Morin, and their aunt, Rebekah Morin, for “unjust enrichment.” The Maryland children claim that their grandmother and aunt have not released any of the $54,000 collected through the GoFundMe campaign that was created just one day after their mother’s body was found.

When the GoFundMe was originally created, it was stated that the money collected would go toward Rachel Morin’s funeral costs. Anything that remained was supposed to be used for “things her 5 children may need.”

Later, the wording of the page was changed, claiming that the leftover money would used for “Rachel’s family and things her minor children may need,” per The Baltimore Banner.

The lawsuit was filed by Morin’s oldest daughter, Faye McMahon, as well as the fathers of Morin’s four younger children, Joseph Custer and Jonathan Alderson.

The family dispute is just the latest tragedy in the story. Last month, Victor Martinez-Hernandez was found guilty of the first-degree premeditated murder and rape of Rachel Morin. Following her daughter’s death, Patty Morin, has been very outspoken politically. She even recently spoke at the White House to encourage people to support President Donald Trump’s policies. She’s also appeared on Hannity and Banfield to speak about the situation.

After learning about the lawsuit, the internet was set into a frenzy by the allegations.

“Yeah, if this is as nefarious and intentional as it seems, stealing from children the funds raised for them after their mother’s murder is top level evil. Even if these people were strangers to the children and this was family,” one person wrote via Reddit.

“Exploiting her daughter in death,” another stated.

“More interested in cozying up to Trump than taking care of her grandchildren, it would seem,” a third person commented.

Unfortunately, it seems that the Maryland family have a long way to go before they can heal from the murder and betrayal that the children feel have come following Rachel Morin’s death.
