Many Massachusetts Republicans are tearing into Governor Maura Healey after she posted a cheerful message celebrating a rugby doubleheader featuring the Boston Banshees. At the same time, local athletes and conservative leaders say her policies are actively undermining fair competition. This isn’t the first time she has come under fire for this issue, but this moment looks especially bad, as the state GOP has ramped up its push against transgender inclusion in female athletic divisions.
In a recent social media post, Healey celebrated the achievements of female athletes across Massachusetts, praising their hard work, dedication, and the barriers they have broken. But the online response quickly turned hostile, with critics accusing the administration of ignoring the concerns of biological women who feel forced out of their own sports due to the state’s inclusive athletic policies. Healey supports trans athletes, and Conservatives were having no part in what they consider a hypocritical act.
“Keep men out of women’s sports and maybe those girls will actually believe you when you say they can compete at the highest level, instead of watching biological males rewrite records and steal scholarships while you call it ‘inclusion.”
“Women are the future of high level athletics and pretty much everything in Massachusetts at this point, someone dropped the ball and multiple generations of men starting with Millenials got lost I guess. All these unmarried career women and athletes, you cant run a state long term like that and eveb if you could you shouldn’t…”
“We are awaiting a Supreme Court decision about males in girls and women’s sports, which you support. Did you mention that?”
“How about, oh I don’t know, stopping the fraud, getting the money back, and lowering energy costs for citizens. Or is it too hard to do what the voters wanted?”
Frustrated residents aren’t holding back, and Healey’s celebratory message clearly missed the mark. With the election right around the corner, this sports controversy isn’t going to go away on its own, even against a vocal minority.
