The Massachusetts GOP has been stoking anger and discontent toward Governor Healey throughout her entire term, but it has ratcheted up quite a bit since Trump was elected, and her term is nearing its end. After a series of setbacks, Republicans have taken her to task over the Homebase Program, a multitude of public transportation issues, and enormous energy bills during a brutal, cold winter in New England. Her latest public appearance featured some excessive pandering, and conservatives have had enough of her attempts at humor, while many of these problems worsen over time.

In a video shared by NBC10 Boston and the New Hampshire Reddit page, Governor Healey took the stage at a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast and gave a speech to a crowd of celebratory Democrats. In the 12-minute appearance, she spoke about Massachusetts as a community. She went down the pandering route, something state Republicans have consistently had a problem with over the last couple of months.

She made jokes about Dunkin’ Donuts, Drake Maye of the New England Patriots, and shared several billboards and slogans about folks in the surrounding regions, including a huge billboard that simply read “Live Free and Dumb.” This act and the showcase of slogans like that, which folks accused her of targeting Trump and Republicans nationwide, caused a series of harsh comments online about her appearance.

“God please don’t let this woman be re-elected ……save Massachusetts with a republican”

“Can’t wait till you are GONE. sure, you talk good cause you wanna be reelected. People have seen the light. Bye-bye now.”

“i would say don’t give up your day job, but you suck at that too!”

“What is the context here? I feel like MA has bigger things to worry about than NH”

The breakfast was hosted in Boston, and the St. Patrick’s Day breakfast is traditionally a regional roast, so the jokes she used were just jokes. But as we can see from the anger online, people, for numerous reasons, have little to no patience for humor, especially during a re-election year for Governor Healey and an important midterm for the nation as well.
