A ‘Devastating’ Loss
In a statement released shortly after his death, Warner Bros. Television Group, which produced Friends, said:
“We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry. Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family. The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans.”
Matthew burst onto the scene in 1994, playing the quick-witted, ultra-sarcastic Chandler Bing in NYC-set sitcom Friends. The long-running series, which ended in 2004, also starred Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow.
In a tweet mentioning Perry’s recent autobiography, British media face Piers Morgan called Perry “a very tormented guy. His recent Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing autobiography about his addiction-ravaged life was one of the most powerful, honest, and revealing I’ve ever read.”
While best known for being the man behind Chandler Bing’s “OH MY GOD,” Perry was also known for shows including Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and The Good Wife. His loss is being mourned by millions.
