Most people have probably had a less-than-satisfactory experience at a fast food drive-thru. Like most people, you probably accepted it and moved on. This is exactly what a woman in California did when she corrected a worker regarding her incorrect order at a McDonald’s. However, the worker speaking to her over the microphone decided to call her a ‘Karen’ instead of simply fixing the mistake. This left the customer wondering what she did wrong, and why she deserved that.
Christy (@christymaybatungb) shared a video on TikTok of her recent experience at a local McDonald’s. She simply said, “I was called a Karen Today.” Christy goes on to say that she went to McDonald’s on her lunch break, which was her ‘first mistake.’ She got to the speaker in the drive-thru and said, “I’d like a number 7, large, with a drink.” She also decided to add a crispy chicken to her order, which shouldn’t have complicated things.
But, as Christy found out and I’m sure we’ve all experienced, her order was wrong when they pulled it up on the board. She told them that they gave her a double cheeseburger when she never asked for one. The worker said, “Okay, so what can I get for you?” and Christy repeated her order. So, she adds the order but the original cheeseburger is still on the screen. The worker asks Christy, “Okay, is everything correct now?” Christy tells her that the second part of the order is correct but the cheeseburger isn’t supposed to be there. Easy fix, right?
Apparently, it wasn’t. The worker tried to argue with Christy over her order, telling her, “You ordered a number nine.” When Christy corrected her, she replied with, “You did order the number nine but, okay, Karen.” Christy said at this point she laughed and asked the lady over the speaker how she’s a Karen when she was just trying to get the correct order.
When Christy pulled up to the next window, she said that the worker was replaced by a male worker. The manager gave Christy her food and apologized to her for the worker’s attitude. Christy told the manager, “Everybody has a bad day but that whole scenario was totally avoidable.” Though Christy just laughed it off at the end, it makes you wonder why people will throw insults so easily.
One commenter said, “People over use the Karen title whenever they’re inconvenienced in the slightest by someone just being normal.” Another person warned, “I would not eat that food. I wouldn’t be able to… I couldn’t trust it no matter what…” You always hope that people who work in restaurants will have a sense of care for their customers but you never know what you’re going to get!
