Meghan Markle surprised many by showing up at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala this year. As expected, multiple media outlets reported on the event, remarking on the Duchess of Sussex’s striking red dress or her mannerisms with fellow attendees, among other things. One outlet posting to Instagram, however, didn’t expect the backlash it would receive from replying to the single comment: “Can’t stand her. Scrolllllllll.”
Access Hollywood posted to Instagram, covering Meghan Markle’s “surprise appearance at the Children’s Hospital L.A. 2024 Gala where she stunned in a red Carolina Herrera gown.” As expected, the comment section is packed with negativity, no small thanks to Markle’s poor reputation. One comment by a user telling others to “scroll on” must have struck a nerve with the poster of the outlet’s account, as they replied to the single remark with “Yet here you are.”
Naturally, this response started a whole skirmish in the replies, with one user claiming Access Hollywood is just “getting paid like @hellomag and @people” to say positive things about Meghan Markle or Prince Harry. The following replies afterward oddly began to argue about Meghan’s ethnicity having an influence on the reason for the outlet promoting her. Still, many jeered in agreement with the original commenter and the first responses.
Regardless of whether Access and the outlets mentioned are shilling out for the Sussexes, this whole situation began a new discussion on Reddit about “how the media [really] works.” The top comment on the related post in r/SaintMeghanMarkle makes a valid argument,
“I’m in my late 60’s, and the entertainment media/Meghan saga has been an eye-opening experience even for someone my age. It’s disgusting to me how they prop up someone who has been exposed as a bully and has produced absolutely nothing. Why? Money? Sucking up to people in power? I used to just pass it off as fluff, but it seems much more sinister to me now.”

Naturally, the replies and other comments were in overwhelming agreement with the top commenter, pointing out how poorly Meghan Markle and Prince Harry “treated Catherine during her cancer treatment.” Not to mention, the two have been doing everything in their power to gain public attention and make money off their supporters, either through PR stunts or promoting their products and Netflix series.
