MediEvil is a remake of the original game of the same name back on the PlayStation 1 and was met to fanfare. Critics praised its platforming and hack & slash hybrid gameplay. Before the likes of Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank, MediEvil was a flagship mascot for the PlayStation brand and a cult classic that garnered a sequel a few years after the original. Playing as skeleton Sir Daniel Fortesque, you are tasked to rid the world of evil from the hands of the evil sorcerer, Zarok. Featuring a tongue in cheek aesthetic and Tim Burton-esque visual style, MediEvil sets to show a variety of enhancements on the PlayStation 4 next month.

Following in the stead of other remakes such as Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy, we have yet another classic genre-defining franchise given the upscale treatment. Featuring a brand new graphics engine with 4K enhancements on the PlayStation 4 Pro such as improved lighting, resolutions and animations. It sets to bring this classic game to the current generation to find a new audience.

With many franchises bringing back their games from a simpler time, it’s a great motivation to slip back into that nostalgic setting, reliving some of those childhood moments or perhaps even experience the adventure for the first time. These remakes provide avenues for both markets. By this, it seems set that MediEvil will continue the trend. Hopefully, initial sales will indicate whether any more remakes of classic PlayStation properties will see the light of day or even MediEvil 2. It’s even possible that this could gauge interest for a brand new title for the series that could see a release on the upcoming next-generation PlayStation.

MediEvil is set to release on October 25th for PS4 at a budget price of $29.99/£24.99.
