Meghan Markle could have a plan for her newly-acquired Portugal pad that may end up working in King Charles’ favor. The 42-year-old and her husband recently expanded their reach into Europe by acquiring a lavish mansion in the heart of Portugal, close to Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie. Royal experts believe the move would help Meghan Markle and Harry’s kids draw closer to their royal cousins, and by extension, the rest of the royal family. One royal who stands to benefit from this move is Harry’s dad, the King.
At the height of his cancer battle, insiders claimed King Charles was “desperate” to meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s kids. However, Harry has made it clear that neither his wife nor his kids are likely to visit his home country until the security concerns are resolved. Meghan Markle also has her own reservations on the subject and could be the deciding factor in whether or not the King meets her kids, Archie and Lilibeth someday.
Meghan Markle May Give King Charles Her Blessing to See His Grandkids
A royal insider has claimed the Duchess of Sussex is considering a decision that could work in the King’s favor. The source cited Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to splurge on a house in Portugal, describing it as “a shrewd move for Meghan.” According to the source who spoke to a news outlet, the mom of two only agreed to purchase a home in Europe because she feared the royal family could manipulate Harry into returning to his royal roots without her if she remained defiant, per GB News. By investing in the Portugal abode, the Suits alum secured her place in Europe, ensuring “she’s not isolated or pushed to the sidelines.”
Fortunately, her shrewd plan facilitates a closer travel distance between her kids and their grandfather who is reportedly eager to meet them. Hence, Meghan Markle may wound up compromising in terms of granting King Charles access to see her kids. The insider explained,
“Now, if it is deemed safe from a security standpoint, it’s likely she’ll give her blessing for Harry to take Archie and Lilibeth to see their grandpa, King Charles, at some point. And in terms of logistics, having a place in Portugal will make that easier because Meghan can fly over with the kids without worrying.”
This supposed power move by Meghan Markle comes after her husband Prince Harry undertook a series of overseas engagements, including his visit to the UK for the WellChild Awards. Like his previous UK visits this year, the Duke of Sussex went solo on this trip, leaving Meghan Markle back in Montecito to look after their two kids. These frequent visits to Europe amid talks of a reunion with his royal family could indeed facilitate a royal reconciliation, which may leave the duchess feeling blindsided. For Meghan, the blow would be less brutal if she somehow controlled the narrative on her own terms.
