The fact that Meghan Markle‘s With Love, Meghan on Netflix has been a flop is not a shocker to anyone. In fact, the production team should have seen this coming when the official trailer on YouTube hit an overwhelmingly large number of Dislikes at over 200K. Yet, Netflix still decided to release Season 2, and it didn’t fare much better, with many calling the episodes “empty and boring” and “even more unsufferable” than the first season. But Meghan is looking to bury the show’s grave on a positive note by having Mariah Carey for her Christmas Special.
The relationship between the Duchess of Sussex and the “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer has been on shaky ground since the “diva” comment back in 2022 during an Archetypes podcast episode. It’s hard to imagine the two working together since that incident blew up, yet royal expert Neil Sean believes Netflix and Meghan are trying to get Carey on to “send off the program” with some possibly favorable publicity. However, things don’t seem too promising, as big names like Dolly Parton have declined to be on Meghan’s failing show.
Many fans of the Royal Family feel the same, saying it’s a “fat chance” after the way Meghan treated Mariah Carey on her 2022 podcast. “Mariah doesn’t need that publicity. Netflix needs it, Megsy needs it,” remarks a Reddit user. Some people believe that this so-called ‘leak’ of trying to get Carey on the Christmas special is actually just a means to “generate buzz, create the illusion of high-profile appeal, and make a struggling project seem more legitimate.” In other words, this all could just be a ploy by Meghan’s PR team to get people talking about her show, regardless of whether it’s in a negative light.
Meghan Markle’s Netflix series is a sinking ship. And even if her husband Prince Harry managed to attain a small amount of goodwill or support from his father during his recent miracle meetup with King Charles, it doesn’t guarantee any A-listers will automatically want to help the Duchess of Sussex save her failing show. “Meghan is no more a celebrity than Harry donated money to charity,” jokes a YouTube comment, pointing out how many doubt the Duke of Sussex actually donated anything to BBC‘s Children in Need.
In any case, fans are hopefully anticipating Meghan Markle’s “terrifying” singing to be an entertaining sight for hate-watchers to see.
