A former Pardon Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice discloses she was fired from her job, and it allegedly has Mel Gibson written all over it. Her dismissal was due to her refusal to reinstate Mel Gibson’s gun rights. Elizabeth G. Oyer noted that she joined a group focused on restoring gun rights for individuals with past convictions. She declined to support Gibson, who lost his rights after a domestic violence conviction in 2011.
The New York Times broke the news of the termination of Oyer. The attorney told the outlet that the office of Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche created a list. The list reportedly included names of nine individuals whose gun rights could potentially be restored. Internet users are reacting to the unfair termination of the legal practitioner. One X user wrote that there was no reason for the gun to be taken in the first place.
Another commenter noted that restricting the right to bear arms infringes on “God-given rights and the Second Amendment.” A third commenter added, “Say it louder for the people in the back!” One X user who seems like a fan of gun control slammed people for being “so ignorant” with the topic. They added that “as long as kids are not dying in schools, conservatives are not happy.” Someone else declared:
“Do we really need an unhinged Mel G with a gun?”
Inside Mel Gibson’s President Donald Trump’s Endorsement

Before Oyer’s termination, she claims she was advised to reconsider recommending Gibson due to his connection to President Donald Trump. She, however, declined, insisting that she could not make that recommendation. Last October, TMZ shared that Gibson publicly expressed his support for Donald Trump in the upcoming election. He criticized Harris for her track record at a brief interview session at LAX.
Gibson confirmed that he is backing Trump again, suggesting that a Harris presidency would not benefit America. He disapproved of Harris’s performance, claiming she had not presented any serious policies. The actor blasted her further, noting that she has “the IQ of a fence post.” This statement mirrors previous remarks made by Trump, who has labeled Harris as mentally unfit for the presidency.
Gibson has a history of making controversial comments, including instances of racism, sexism, and antisemitism. The 69-year-old director is renowned for his work in historical films and his portrayal of action heroes. He is famous for his iconic role as Max Rockatansky in the original Mad Max trilogy (1979-1985). He also played Martin Riggs in the Lethal Weapon series (1987-1998).
Mel Gibson Was Blackballed for Nearly Ten Years After a Controversial Remark

We earlier reported that the 69-year-old has dealt with accusations of domestic abuse, homophobia, and DUI arrests. His problematic comments finally landed him on the pages of actors to avoid for nearly a decade. In 2014, Robert Downey Jr. and journalist Allison Hope Weiner supported forgiving Gibson. Downey urged the audience to extend him the same opportunity for redemption that they had afforded him. He emphasized allowing Gibson to continue his valuable contributions to the arts without shame.
Downey noted that everyone has faults and that anyone who thinks otherwise is mistaken about the industry. Gibson reflected on the profound kindness Downey showed him during a challenging period in his life. He expressed gratitude for Downey’s support, highlighting how he spoke up for Gibson when he felt invisible in Hollywood. Gibson described Downey’s actions as bold, generous, and deeply compassionate, emphasizing his appreciation for him.
Will Elizabeth G. Oyer’s successor restore Mel Gibson’s gun rights?
