Microtransactions are an issue that just doesn’t seem to be going away. While there has been plenty of pushback from the gaming community regarding loot boxes and other greasy pay to play (and win) tactics, new ones just keep popping up. Nothing compares to what Konami is requiring its costumers to do for an extra save slot in Metal Gear Survive though.

Upon launching Metal Gear Survive, players you are given an avatar in which to customize. Once that character starts the single-player campaign, they are assigned a save slot. Pretty normal right? However, if you want to create a second character, you’ll have to pay $9.99 and go through the currency of Survival Coins.

This means that if you share your PSN, Xbox Live, or Steam account with another family member or friend, each additional player will need to buy an extra save slot for 1,000 SV Coins. The $9.99 microtransactions coin pack gives players 1,150 per pack and will be purchasable through the title screen.

Even as it was announced, Metal Gear Survive has received a lot of flack for trying to milk the Metal Gear franchise. Not only is creator Hideo Kojima no longer apart of the company, the entire game simply seems like it’s trying to cash in on the popularity of the survival/zombie genre.

The Metal Gear series has always been about beautifully complex (and weird) story. Metal Gear Survive simply goes the apocalypse route, loosely and awkwardly attempting to draw it back to the original series. More than anything it feels like they are trying combine Call of Duty Zombies and The Walking Dead with Metal Gear.

Metal Gear Survive was released on February 20th, 2018, at a price point of $39.99 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows.
