A local man from Miami gave a rather infuriating reason to justify why he abused a 9-year-old boy. The child’s mother even confronted the abuser, only for him to tell her that it’s something men do and with a sprinkle of his cultural background likely hoping to evade the charges easily.
The man in question is 67-year-old Reinaldo Reyes Llanes from Allapattah, Miami, Florida. Llanes was merely attending as a neighbor to a gathering to which the child’s mother was invited. As the event proceeded late, it was Llanes himself who suggested that the mother and her son spend the night at his apartment. The mother agreed.
It didn’t take long for Llanes, however, to commit the crime because as soon as he saw the child on the bed, he smacked the boy on the buttock and even groped him on the genital area. Disturbingly enough, the whole abuse took place right in front of the mother and she immediately confronted Llanes about what happened. Llanes, of course, tried to laugh off the incident:
“I am Cuban. That is just something men do,” says Reinaldo Llanes, according to the police report transcript courtesy of Local 10
The mother had to call the police on the scene though upon arriving, Llanes also denied that he molested the 9-year-old boy. Thankfully, Llanes is currently being detained without bond in the Turner Guildford Knight Correctional Center under charges of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12. Depending on how the charges and the proceedings go, Llanes could be facing trial for what he did as the charges carry as much as 15 years in prison as a punishment.
Still, despite the arrest and being brought to justice, a lot of people online have voiced further concern for Llanes’s behavior and justification.
People Have Weighed in On Llanes Crimes
Regardless of Llanes reasons for what he did to the molested boy, he broke US laws but it appears he’s going to try and get a trial or plead not guilty based on his initial reaction to the arrest. A lot of people online who have seen the story have likened Llanes’s reaction to many convicted pedophiles and sex offenders in Texas given the similarity of their reasoning. Most of them thought what they did was normal.
Some have even pointed out that Andrew Cuomo, former New York governor, practically had a similar defense to Reinaldo Llanes. Of course, there are also those who have come to the Cuban people’s defense, stating that Llanes doesn’t represent Cuban culture and that he was merely an exception and an isolated case.
