No matter where you’re from, police can be a bit of a coin flip—they’re either really helpful or downright useless and monstrous. It’s a bummer because you hope that anyone who pursues a career as a police officer does so for the sake of helping others. Nothing breaks that assumption like seeing a cop stay put in their vehicle while a vicious beating takes place right in front of them.
Nearby cameras captured a serious beat down on a driver by a rather large group of cyclists. Before the incident, they could be seen arguing with one another. That’s not uncommon at all, considering drivers and bikers frequently get into scuffles. The U.S. isn’t exactly biker-friendly. Multiple cyclists swarmed the victim, issuing stomps and punches, and one even used a bike as a weapon.
And that’s not all. The cyclists also trashed the victim’s car. They broke the windshield and stomped on the roof and the hood as well. But while all of this was happening, a Miami police officer stayed kaput in her vehicle, even while the poor driver was being beaten by a bicycle.
It wasn’t until a call was made to the Miami Police Department of the beatdown that the officer left her vehicle. At that point, several officers had already appeared.
It’s unclear if that was the goal, to wait until more officers appeared to better fend off the cyclists. It’s possible there were too many. Reddit user Nervous_Salad_5367 wonders the same thing. “Maybe the cop was waiting for backup? That psycho crowd wouldn’t hesitate to f up a single cop,” they said.
Another commenter echoes the same sentiment, “Usually I would agree but I’m sure if it’s one cop by themselves versus a crowd they’re trained to wait for back up,” they said. Regardless of what you think of the Miami officer’s decision, she has been relieved of duty for now.
