Dealing with racist people can be aggravating, but dealing with people secretly being racist in another language is another can of worms. A black shopper at a Family Dollar in Miami was being ‘sneakily’ harassed by a Hispanic store clerk who didn’t think he understood what she was saying. To her surprise, not only did he know Spanish, but he could speak it too. And he was not about to let her get away with her cowardly racism.
In a video subtitled “You never know who understands You,” the customer started recording himself, getting ready to call out the Miami store clerk on her sneaky racist behavior. “Lemme give you a word of advice,” he began. “Man, you got to watch what you say when you say it. Because you don’t know who speaks Spanish.” The man then proceeded to berate her in Spanish. You’d think by now, she would have started apologizing or the like. However, she tried to brush off his criticism by repeating, “I was just saying!“
The Family Dollar employee continued disregarding the customer and did not own up to her comments toward the black shopper. The customer became increasingly annoyed at how unapologetic she was before telling her, “I’m recording you now!” He continued telling the video’s viewers: “They be talking s*** in Spanish thinking people don’t understand their a**. You talking about black folks in Spanish!” Disappointingly, even until the very end, the worker refused to admit she was wrong.
“Cowards do that shit. If you have something to say about someone, then say it without trying to be a sneaky weasel,” remarks a Reddit user reacting to the post. “Oh now she was just playing, because she got caught red handed,” chimes in a second. “‘I was just sayin…’ yeah, sayin racist s***…” said a third. A slew of commenters also noted that they or someone they know had a similar experience with people being secretly disrespectful in a different language. “They super passive aggressive,” commented a user.
This video is a great lesson for those who think they can get away with talking about people in front of their faces, thinking they don’t understand. Just as the man said in the post’s subtitle, “You never know who understands you.”
