An atheist Michigan content creator briefly interacted with his Christian neighbor, who asked about his shoulder. After a brief exchange, the neighbor told the atheist, fully convinced, that his shoulder would heal itself by the power of prayer. Spoiler alert: it didn’t.
The weird interaction was shared on TikTok by Unquestionable Calvin, the aforementioned atheist. After mentioning he and his neighbor were aware of each other’s religious beliefs (or lackthereof), Calvin recounted how his neighbor recently approached him about his shoulder.
“He said, ‘Hey, can I do something for you?’ And I said, ‘What?’ And he asked if he could pray for me,” Calvin said.
The atheist man agreed, but clarified that his neighbor could pray for him anywhere and anytime he wanted, except for that very moment. The Christian neighbor, however, started praying for Calvin right there and then, unsolicited. Bothered, the atheist man started walking back into his house, which ultimately stopped the praying.
After telling his neighbor to look him up on the internet, in an attempt to get him to back off, given their abysmally different worldviews, the Christian neighbor made a bold claim.
“He said that he is going to pray so hard for me… that I won’t even need to go to the doctor tomorrow,” Calvin said. “I’ll have to cancel my doctor’s appointment. I’ll be healed tomorrow.”
A Prayer Bet Backfires, Reactions
The Michigan man took the bait and told his Christian neighbor that if he was able to raise his arm straight up, he would convert to Christianity. Then, he showed how he was unable to raise his left arm, with users theorizing that he suffered from a frozen shoulder.
Time passed, and the day of reckoning arrived. Unfortunately for Calvin’s neighbor, he was still unable to raise his arm due to his shoulder. Shocking.
Many users reacted to the Christian bet by criticizing the vanity of it. One user commented, “How about pray so hard for starving kids, those suffering on the streets, unaliving in hospitals.” Another one said, “Why didn’t he pray for your eyes to not need glasses?” A third one added, “I would do anything for that level of confidence in ANYTHING.”
Regardless of religious beliefs, one could argue that what the Christian neighbor did was tempting God himself. By the looks of it, He didn’t like that at all.
