As the fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul draws close, both fighters are showing their readiness in interviews, mini-documentaries, and YouTube collaborations, not to mention the detailed coverage on Netflix.
In typical pre-fight fashion, once both fighters were facing off for the crowd during the weigh-ins, Mike Tyson being Iron Mike, slapped Jake Paul straight in the face just to send a message.
People have been concerned about Mike Tyson being 58 years old and way past his prime to take on a legitimate boxer who’s 27. But he’s trying to show that not only is age not as much of a factor as people think, but also that he’s taking this fight very seriously. This isn’t just another exhibition match with another retired fighter, this is a sanctioned fight with a lot on the line.
In their opinions on social media, Mike Tyson says that Jake Paul is just a YouTuber and that he will “teach him a lesson” once they face off in the ring. On the other hand, Jake Paul said that he respects Mike and has been a fan for a very long time. But he believes that it is time to “pass on the torch” to the newcomers.
According to most professionals in the sport, the chances of Mike Tyson winning this match are slim, while Jake Paul seems to be the favorite for everyone. Since he is a lot older, his stamina isn’t what it used to be, which is why the match will have shorter 2-minute rounds and thicker gloves with more padding (14 ounces).
The Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight will go live exclusively on Netflix at 8 PM ET. This is the second big win for the streaming giant after Arcane season 2 and the first time the streaming giant has dabbled in sports. We’ll have to wait and see how Mike performs and if all of his training paid off.
