While Smooth Stone in Minecraft can be used for decor blocks, its core use is crafting a Blast Furnace. A Blast Furnace is a workbench that can smelt ores and raw metals twice as fast as a standard Furnace. Like the Smoker in Minecraft, the Blast Furnace can only refine the specific resources intended, meaning players can’t cook food within it. That said, crafting a Blast Furnace requires three blocks of Smooth Stone.
How To Craft Minecraft Smooth Stone
To make Smooth Stone in Minecraft, you need raw stone blocks, aka Cobblestone, one of the most common blocks found in the overworld. Needless to say, it’s the block that makes up over 90% of the walls and floor in mines and caves. After collecting enough Cobblestone, players can craft a Furnace, which will then be used to smelt Smooth Stone.
Here’s what you need to do to make a Blast Furnace:
- 1. Collect eight blocks of Cobblestone to craft a Furnace.
- 2. Gather more Cobblestone to smelt the blocks into Smooth Stone.
One stone block will produce one Smooth Stone. You can use either wood or coal for the Furnace’s fuel; coal is the more efficient of the two.
- 3. Use Iron Ingots, Smooth Stone, and a Furnace to make a Blast Furnace
For clarification, here is a list of items needed to craft the Blast Furnace.
- Iron Ingot ×5
- Furnace ×1
- Smooth Stone ×3
Players can also use Smooth Stone to make Smooth Stone slabs and blocks that can function as walkways, stairs, or other decorations. If you plan to make a large batch of Smooth Stone, you’ll never run out of Cobblestone since it’s so prevalent. However, do keep an eye on the fuel reserves in your Furnaces.
