Warden is a brand new hostile mob first added in the 1.19 Deep Dark Experimental Snapshot version of Minecraft Java Edition on February 17, 2022. It is planned to be officially released in the Minecraft 1.19 The Wild update. This unique enemy type is completely blind and can only rely on vibrations and sense of smell to attack players and other mobs. Nevertheless, Wardens are the most powerful enemy in the game, with the highest health and damage output of any mob, easily killing anyone, even with Netherite Armor. If you need to prove your strength (or to learn when one will be coming to get you), then here’s how you can summon the Warden in Minecraft 1.19.
(Updated on August 8, 2024 – Fact-checked and clarified the guide’s steps).
Summoning the Warden in Survival Mode
To summon a Warden, you will need a Sculk Shrieker, a Redstone block that you can find in the Deep Dark biome. If you step on the block or activate a nearby Sculk Sensor or a Redstone signal, it will create one level of “warning” to alert the Warden. Once you reach three levels of warnings, a Warden will automatically spawn from the ground if there’s no other Warden nearby.
Once spawned, a Warden will wander around randomly and be alerted by a nearby vibration. The more vibrations someone or something (mobs, minecarts, projectiles) produces, the angrier it becomes, and the souls on its chest begin to speed up. When a Warden becomes angry enough (or is attacked), it roars and chases down the target. The Warden burrows back into the ground and despawns after not feeling any vibrations and being “calm” for 60 seconds.
With that in mind, always look out for Sculk Shriekers when you explore the Deep Dark biome. You can lower one warning level by not activating any Sculk Shrieker for 10 minutes. Although extremely difficult to defeat, a Warden takes bonus damage against Smite enchantment and is damaged by the Healing status effect like Undead mobs. However, it won’t burn under sunlight.
Summoning the Warden in Creative Mode
In Creative Mode, after the Minecraft 1.19 update, you should be able to spawn a Warden by using these commands in the chat window:
- Bedrock Edition: “/summon warden”
- Java Edition: “/summon Minecraft:warden”
