Minecraft Villager changes are coming with the 1.20.2 Snapshot. Do not panic, though. The update is pretty much just making the Villagers much less susceptible to being farmed for items. It does so by adjusting two Villager Professions and how Zombie Villager works. But what are the tweaks being added to the game; will they actually make the game more fun? Here’s what you need to know about Minecraft Villager changes in the 1.20.2 Snapshot update below.
What Are the Villager Changes in Minecraft 1.20.2 Snapshot Update?
Keep in mind that the Villager updates or changes only apply when you turn on the new experimental Feature Toggle. You can locate this option by going to the Experiments Menu when creating a new World.
Librarian Villager Update in Minecraft 1.20.2 Snapshot
Before the Minecraft 1.20.2 snapshot update, you can easily obtain all village Enchantments from trading with any Librarian Villager you found. Swift Sneak, Feather Falling, Silk Touch, you name it. All of them will just randomly appear in a Librarian inventory. However, Mojang felt it was very exploitable and made searching for Books and Enchanting Table meaningless. This update will now restrict which Enchantment you can get depending on where you meet a Librarian.
This new Minecraft Villager changes now makes Librarians from different biomes sell different Enchanted Books. One Special Enchantment can also only be obtained from Master Librarians with full XP. Some Enchantments have even been removed from Village trading. As a result, there are more reasons to explore and create Villages in all seven biomes to get the full set of Villager Enchantments!
Below is the list of all Village Enhancements you can trade for depending on the Village biome:
Location | Special Book (Master) | Normal Book |
Desert | Efficiency III |
|
Jungle | Unbreaking II |
|
Plains | Protection III |
|
Savanna | Sharpness III |
|
Snow | Silk Touch |
|
Swamp | Mending |
|
Taiga | Fortune |

Wandering Trader Update in Minecraft 1.20.2 Snapshot
While relying on RNG gives too many benefits when trading with Librarians, the opposite happens with the Wandering Trader. According to Mojang, they got a lot of feedback saying that the Trader is pretty useless and has unfair prices. Responding to the complaints, Wandering Traders now have lower prices and a higher amount of each item in stock. He also sells logs and can buy items.
Wandering Trader might want to buy these items from time to time, thanks to Minecraft Villager changes:
- Baked Potato
- Fermented Spider Eye
- Hay Bale
- Milk Bucket
- Water Bottle
- Water Bucket
The Minecraft Villager changes now expand Wandering Trader’s item stock with:
- Log (any type)
- Enchanted Iron Pickaxe
- Potion of Invisibility
Zombie Villager Update in Minecraft 1.20.2 Snapshot
Last but not least, of the Minecraft Villager changes, you can no longer exploit Zombie Villagers for discounts. Curing a Zombie Villager only gives a big discount the first time around. And remember, you can keep curing them to get huge discounts on the minimum of one Emerald. Well, there’s no longer a bonus discount for reinfecting and curing the same Villager multiple times.
Those are the Minecraft Villager changes happening with the 1.20.2 Snapshot update. Are you glad these tweaks are added to the game? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
