A Tesla Takedown protest in La Jolla treated San Diego locals to a surprise guest on Saturday. No, it wasn’t the real Elon Musk, but a miniature cutout version attached to what appears to be a motorized mini Tesla. Though it may only have been a prop, it says something about the state of the protests. The everyday people resisting Donald Trump and his oligarch allies are getting creative in their displays of resistance. Unfortunately, it seems they have to. American politicians on both sides of the aisle paved the way for Trump and Musk. Now a tiny mini Musk prop is cruising across that same pavement.
San Diego Protests Trump with Mini Musk
Ja Jolla joining the protests occurring throughout the United States isn’t a surprise. The tiny prop Tesla kind of is. From the video, the prop looks like it consists of a tinfoil and cardboard case over a motorized frame. It seems to cruise around easily on the sidewalk, so it wouldn’t be surprising if it appeared at future San Diego protests.
A TikTok by u/coryndiego about the La Jolla protests also showed off several of the more memorable signs at the event. “Don’t Drive/Buy a Nazi Car! Screw Elon!!! F*ck Tesla!!!” said one sign. “Dump D.O.G.E.,” said another. One commenter on the video shared how proud they were of the protestors, saying,
As someone from LA Jolla, now in NYC, don’t ask! Go, Go, Go La Jolla 💙💙💙💙
The Tesla CEO is at this point openly fascist. Performing Nazi salutes, retweeting white supremacist dog whistles, and backing Germany’s far-right AfD party? None of that’s a surprise from Musk at this point. While not every Tesla protest will feature a motorized mini Musk the way San Diego did at La Jolla, that’s okay. Creativity and righteous anger are a powerful pair. It wouldn’t be a surprise if this creative display of dissent is only the start for La Jolla and beyond.
