Surreal details are emerging following a school shooting that took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The 23-year-old shooter attacked the Annunciation Church, firing a dozen shots through its windows. A smoke bomb and three firearms were recovered following the tragedy. Now, police have learned that the shooter posted his entire manifesto on YouTube. Among the many questions people have, the biggest is why the video platform didn’t flag it in time.
A video posted by TikTok user @allanthedude shared that the shooting details were all online before the shooter took action. “So you’re telling me the person who committed the mass shooting today in Minneapolis uploaded their manifesto to YouTube this morning, and YouTube did not even have any red flag feature on it?” he can be heard saying.
“Their detection system did not see that this was obviously a mentally ill person with ammos and guns in the video?” He questions, before finishing the video with some brutal honesty. “Now, it’s 2025. We have all the technology, all of the resources to detect these things, yet… they still get bypassed.” Viewers mostly agreed with the notion, with many feeling confused and frustrated over YouTube’s lack of scrutiny.
“But if you use a small clip of licensed music, you’re flagged, banned, and the video is removed. Priorities,” one user commented. “But remember, we all need to upload our ID to PROTECT THE CHILDREN,” another emphasized. One recalled a previous YouTube miss, saying, “And this isn’t the first time someone uploaded the crime… YouTube doesn’t care.”
Several viewers cited politics, pointing out the lack of fairness in that certain things get flagged over others. “Meanwhile, Palestine videos are flagged,” says one. Another commented, “They’re too busy censoring speech against Israel.” Others dismissed YouTube as the enemy, saying there are bigger issues at hand. “I’m more concerned with how easily it is for the unhinged in our society to get firearms,” one user commented back.
