You probably thought you’d seen it all in ice skating, but one girl from Minnesota has you in for a surprise. In a recent US Figure Skating 2025 National Showcase, the Minnesota girl has managed to wow crowds of all ages with her legendary Chicken Jockey routine, in which she wore a full, human-sized chicken costume on ice. Needless to say, the Chicken Jockey dance put the girl high on the pecking order:
The viral video was uploaded by TikTok user Katarina and Miss Congeniality of Minnesota, or just Katarina S., the 9-year-old Chicken Jockey figure staker in question. She notably set the ice on fire as well as the internet for her performance, as anyone who has dipped their toes in ice skating knows just how hard it is to balance on those blades, let alone gracefully dance while wearing an inflatable costume. Thankfully, she actually won:
“Chicken Jockey! ๐ I am so honored by all of your support and the judgesโ votes, when I just went out there and was the most myself I could be alongside all of the other amazing hilarious inflatables skaters ๐ฅน Gold in Group B, Bronze in the Final๐ Thank you,” in an Instagram post
For her hen-tastic dance, Katarina won Gold in Group B and Bronze in the Open Inflatables Finals of the 2025 National Showcase, which took place in Rochester, Michigan. Katarina has thus found a new wave of fans for her creativity and her control. Imagine just how careful she had to be not to trip on the chicken inflatable, and lots of things could’ve gone wrong; well, she not only stuck multiple landings, but also won medals and the adoration of online and offline crowds.
People Online are Praising the Little Hen That Could
Katarina’s very timely and relevant Chicken Jockey ice dance (thanks, Jack Black!) has also won her lots of new fans, some of whom weren’t even initially fond of figure skating to begin with. Consequently, these new fans were overjoyed to discover such a goofy side of the sport– mostly because it often featured graceful swan-like maneuvers and themes.
“I was never a fan of figure skating . But this is clucking wonderful !” exlaims a Reddit user
“I would watch figure skating everyday if this was the medium,” replies another
“Is she a chicken jockey…?”
“That chicken can skate, I tell you hwat.”
Meanwhile, people are now even more curious after seeing a glimpse of the inflatable category’s next performance after the Chicken Jockey, one that involves an inflatable dog. Of course, some were still on the fence at the ridiculousness of the figure skating genre, but I’d argue that it’s a refreshing breath of fresh air and can make figure skating seem less elite with how it handles creativity.
“1st thought Ridiculous . 2nd thought OMG she is so cute”
“I died when I saw the inflatable dog costume coming out of the bull pen at the end. wtf, is this a whole category?! ๐”
“Creativity 10/10”
