Miranda Cosgrove has lived most of her life in the spotlight. Getting her start as a child actress in projects such as School of Rock and Drake & Josh makes the 31-year-old a familiar face. Known for her wholesome image, Cosgrove is no stranger to the darker side of things. In a recent interview, she opened up about a real and terrifying experience she dealt with years ago.
Miranda Cosgrove Had A Persistent Stalker
The iCarly alum recently recalled what it was like to have a stalker. Eight years ago, a man who was stalking the actress shot and killed himself in the backyard of her home.
Cosgrove wasn’t home at the time, spending the night at her parent’s home when she got the 3:00 a.m. call from police about the terrifying incident.
Police couldn’t determine exactly how long the man was ultimately stalking her or how he came to know where she resided. They later determined the man visited the property several times in several days, burying rope and knives around her yard. The intruder was on the property for over six hours before dying by suicide.
Another Woman Sustained Injuries Amid The Process
Police also were able to confirm the man shot a woman who looked like Cosgrove, who was driving in her neighborhood when she was targeted. Cosgrove tells Bustle she met that woman years later.
This girl came up to me, and she was like, ‘I didn’t know if I should tell you this here or how to say this, but I’m actually the girl that was at your house that got shot at.’ She seemed like she processes things in a similar way that I do. She said she’d just gone through a breakup the night before and was going to her friend’s house because she was so distraught. When they brought her into the Hollywood Police Station to ask what he looked like and how it all happened, the detectives were like, ‘Start from the very beginning. What happened?’ And she was like, ‘Well, he broke up with me last night,’ and she started telling them all about her breakup.

The Actress Still Owns That Same Home
Miranda Cosgrove has leaned on her sense of humor to cope with the scary stalker situation. Still, it hasn’t been easy for her to move on. Though Cosgrove continues to own the house, staying there is tough on the actress.
That’s another reason why I go back and forth to my parents’ house so much. I just don’t feel super safe in that house. For two years after it happened, I wouldn’t really stay there. Then I got into a relationship and because that person was there with me, I was less scared. But I don’t really like being there on my own that much.

It’s brave of Cosgrove to continue to keep the property after the traumatizing situation. The actress has seemingly done the work to process and continues to work through that, one of many complicated moments that have come with her childhood fame.
