He’s been living in Mississippi for many years now, working as a welding foreman. He and his wife have built a life here in the country, but now he’s detained.
Kasper moved from Denmark over a decade ago. Their immigration process had gone smoothly until they forgot to submit one important form, the I-751. They missed it because they were grieving after losing their first child to stillbirth. Despite having no criminal charges against him, Kasper is still locked up.
And he’s far from the only one facing trouble with ICE or the law without having committed any crime. Since Trump took office, ICE has been on overdrive. There have been many reports of sudden arrests and agents targeting law-abiding immigrants. The authorities often ignore legal procedures, confident they won’t face consequences as long as Trump remains in power.
While some people sympathize with what Kasper has gone through, some find the situation amusing. As one Reddit user put it, “He’s also a Trump supporter. So, leopards ate his face.” This isn’t entirely off the mark. A quick look at Kasper’s social media reveals posts supporting Trump, along with some anti-vaccine views. Another Redditor commented, “Damn, ICE must be desperate for bodies to detain if they’re grabbing blond, blue-eyed Danes.”
Others also pointed out how ironic it is that there won’t be any Medicaid for his five “anchor babies” after he’s deported. His wife voted for Trump, and he actively supported him, even while his green card was expired.
One user said, “Hey! I went to school with these people. What they don’t tell you is that they are huge Trump supporters and voted for him. I agree this situation sucks, but they used to harshly attack people on social media, saying they hoped those people would get deported when Trump came back, only for this to happen to them now. And now they post on social media that he was locked up because of Biden’s policies.”
Others lamented how far America has fallen. Many couldn’t believe how much things have worsened since Trump returned to power for a second term. Another user wrote, “There are so many stories like this. We are quickly becoming unrecognizable compared to the America that was once great in so many ways. Why would anyone want to live here now? The land of opportunity is no more as long as Little Caesar and his puppet masters remain in power.”
