While there are uneducated voters from both major political parties in the States, it is pretty ironic whenever someone who seemingly voted for the current troublesome administration is plainly ignorant. That said, one healthcare worker in Missouri was helping a client with United Healthcare understand the available therapy options with approved Medicaid providers. However, the individual denied they were on Medicaid and angrily exclaimed, “I don’t have welfare, I have proper insurance!” The worker explained that the client had Medicaid, after which they suddenly got up and stomped out of the office in a rage.
Later on, the healthcare worker received an email from their supervisor, saying that she received a complaint from the client. Apparently, they told the office’s higher-ups that they were accused of being “a ‘liberal’ by telling them they have a program they don’t think others need.” Fortunately, the employee didn’t get into any trouble from this complaint, but it did leave them scratching their head as they posted the incident to r/mildlyinfuriating.
One of the post’s top comments explains that states that offer Medicaid will often have their own specific names. For example, “Wisconsin has Badgercare, [but] there were so many that didn’t know it was Medicaid. People [are] dumb,” remarks a Reddit user. Another added that many can’t even tell the difference between Medicare and Medicaid. The first is for elderly folks or those with disabilities, whereas the latter is for low-income families. To be fair, many commenters agree that the names are quite similar, making the distinction confusing.
Still, many Redditors roasted the Missouri healthcare client for not knowing they were on Medicaid, with claims that they had “proper insurance.” “America’s the only place where people brag about government help as long as you change the label,” commented one person. “Honestly that has got to be one of the republicans greatest victories, convincing people that Medicaid is not Obamacare,” joked a second. “And, even though Trump ‘loves the poorly educated’, they are the ones slated to be poorer, sicker, and a lot hungrier in the future,” chimed in a third.
It’s unfortunate that many people who blindly voted for the current President are quite uneducated on what they’re supporting. Not to mention that many have misconceptions about basic healthcare and federal concepts in the first place.
