A Virginia woman claims she was fired from an assisted living facility in Richmond, where she worked as a housekeeper. She alleges that following a meeting with the director to discuss a raise, she was “asked to leave the premises.” However, her TikTok video has mixed reactions, with several siding with the company and some telling her to be grateful.

The situation began when the director was allegedly two hours late. Then, the Virginia woman gave her reasons for wanting a raise. These include residents loving her, being short-staffed, and having to clean up after another housekeeper not doing her job. The response she allegedly received: “She laughed in my face.”

The director allegedly responded, “We are a business, and that’s not how businesses work.” The woman states she was told that she would be getting a raise, but “not for the reasons [she] wanted.” She then learned that she would be getting “a dollar more” than she was currently earning.

When asking when this raise would occur, the Virginia woman says she was told, “Six months to a year from your employment.” Supposedly, one of her coworkers received a raise after two months, which she brought up in the meeting. The director called this a lie. The woman states she told her boss, “I don’t feel appreciated here, and I think this conversation is over.”

The following day, when the director said hello and she didn’t answer back, she claims the director said, “There’s a level of professionalism that when someone says hi to you, you say hi back.” This led to her listing how the director was unprofessional during the meeting. Not fifteen minutes after this, she was told to leave and hand over her keys. Her video has over 90,000 views.

Mixed Reactions To Virginia Woman’s Video

However, the TikTok video doesn’t have the response the Virginia woman may have hoped for. Several in the comments seem to side with the company, calling out her behavior as problematic.

One commenter states that she was in the wrong: “I hate when y’all make me side with a company but in what world do you tell your manager ‘this conversation is over’ and get up to leave?” Another person says, “I have a feeling we are not getting the whole story.” A third commenter says, “I can understand that you wanted a raise. However, you need to look at the big picture.”

Although some do agree with her and applaud her for standing up for herself. One person says, “Lots of boot lickers in these comments.” Another states, “You should have stopped the meeting at her first snide remark and laughing at you and requested that HR be present.” Meanwhile, one says, “I’m on your side. Jobs do not care about good workers because they know they can’t step all over you.”

The Virginia woman has posted a follow-up video explaining her reasons for why she thought she deserved a raise. This includes a breakdown of her housekeeping duties, being overworked, having a coworker not working, and being understaffed.
