In early October, Capcom revealed that a live-action Monster Hunter movie was in the works with Paul W.S. Anderson set to write and direct. The film will reportedly star Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa, T.I., Diego Boneta, and Ron Perlman.
We now have our first set photos for the upcoming Monster Hunter movie courtesy of Milla Jovovich:
Full disclosure, I’m not very familiar with the Monster Hunter franchise. That being said, these set images shown above do not seem to be close to the source material at all. Paul W.S. Anderson is known for his work with the Resident Evil movie franchise. This long-running film series was widely regarded as a far cry from its source material. Just speculation but it seems that Anderson will be taking the same liberties with his adaptation of this beloved video game franchise. Here is a quick plot synopsis for the upcoming film:
“The film tells the story of two heroes who come from different worlds to defeat a shared danger, the powerful, deadly and magnificent monsters that inhabit the land. Along the way viewers will make new discoveries and encounter familiar faces and beloved characters from the games like the Admiral.”
Ryozo Tsujimoto, who is a producer for the Monster Hunter series, had this to say about the upcoming movie adaptation:
“After living and breathing in the universe of Monster Hunter for 14 years we are thrilled with enormous anticipation to see our creations adapted for a theatrical release,”
“Monster Hunter’s fan base has exploded over the past year with the runaway success of the game ‘Monster Hunter: World.’ It is our hope long-time fans and new alike will join us on this exciting exploration of the Monster Hunter universe.”
