Cooper Koch has no negative feedback about finally meeting one of the Menendez brothers, Erik Menendez. The actor raved on finally meeting Erik in prison after “Monsters” release on the streaming platform last month. Koch played the role of Erik Menendez in the series, which is currently receiving massive attention from viewers.
Koch detailed his state of mind since meeting the other half of the convicted Menendez brothers who are serving time. In the actor’s words, “Preparing to play him was, in a way, preparing to meet him at the same time. Because in preparing to play him, I developed such a care and true — I just care so much for him,” Koch notes that he believes Erik’s story and thinks of him as an amazing human being, adding:
“And so, after playing him, getting to meet him was so rewarding and special and one of the most amazing experiences I think I’ll ever have in my life.”
The Netflix star’s warm comments come after Erik calls the Ryan Murphy-directed flick “a dishonest portrayal.” Koch and Kim Kardashian then visited him at San Diego County’s Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. The pair engaged the Menendez brothers and 40 other inmates on their special visit to the correctional facility.
A Los Angeles County District Attorney, George Gaston, also spoke on the Menéndez situation. Per Deadline, the District Attorney believed the convicted brothers did not “deserve to be in prison until they die.” A new hearing date is due for November 26, with new evidence of abuse from their father, José Menendez.
Nicholas Alexander Chavez Described the Other Menendez Brother as ‘Compelling and Complicated’
Although Chavez did not visit the Menéndez brothers in prison, he connected with Lyle Menéndez in his own way. We reported that the actor did “an extensive amount of research” on the 1996 conviction.
“This guy is a really compelling and complicated character, and I wanted to be thorough. He has left such a strong impression on me, and I’m very glad that there are so many materials out there that I could read,” the “Monsters” star declared. The actor did not let his lack of prior knowledge about the case affect his portrayal of Lyle. In his words:
“As soon as I got the audition, I immediately called the people who I knew and loved who were alive during that time, and I asked them what they knew about it and what their impressions of it were, and that was actually really interesting information to get.”
“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez story” debuted at number one on Netflix worldwide with 12.3 million views.
