Mortal Kombat 1 is in the gray zone of gaming these days with few updates left to add the Kombat Pack 2 leftovers. However, it seems like WB is not done with this game, hence why the canceled Kombat Pack 3 has become a possibility once more thanks to the recent leaks and news. So Mortal Kombat 1 is not dead, but the chances are that it won’t receive a second story DLC due to Khaos Reigns‘ failure while Kombat Pack 3 is not off the menu; let’s discuss.
The story of Mortal Kombat 1 going dead started with a user sharing some insider information about how the Khaos Reigns expansion has failed to reach the sales mark. Accordingly, this then led to Mortal Kombat 1 developers canceling their future plans for a second story DLC and the upcoming Kombat Pack 3 that was rumored to bring back the Kombat Kids + Jade.
Speaking of which, Mela Lee, the voice behind Jade in MK11 has recently given some info about her future with the NetherRealm Studios and the Mortal Kombat franchise which is quite intriguing. She says they have plans for the character, which could either mean MK2 or Kombat Pack 3. But we’ve put our money on Kombat Pack 3 DLC, and here are two key reasons to back this theory.
Mortal Kombat 1 Is Back At EVO
Conan The Barbarian was announced, and I was like, this is what they should do for the remaining Kombat Pack 2 characters. But then came the Pro Kompetition Season 2 video and keep in mind that WB is throwing thousands of dollars for this to happen, a company that cancels projects immediately if they don’t see any good in them.
So it’s quite evident that the publisher still has some faith left in Mortal Kombat 1 and maybe this is part of a long-term plan for the game that hasn’t changed since its launch. There has been no official or legitimate news about the cancellation of a second story expansion, but Kombat Pack 3 could still be a thing if they’re going strong at EVO by investing more in MK1 this year.
Kombat Pack 3 Has Complete Assets Ready
Among all the leaks from Mortal Kombat 1 that addressed the cancellation of Kombat Pack 3, there’s one that shows the full design of Kung Jin. Now I don’t say this design looks good at all, but well, if there’s a full asset ready to prove that the developers have the character to add, then it’s more of proof that it’s coming than getting canceled.
No news on other characters and their design has surfaced on the internet yet, but it’s hard to see them not sprinkling the claimed dead Kombat Pack 3 to Mortal Kombat 1 now that they’re bringing back Jade’s voice actor and Kung Jin is ready to drop into the game. I mean, no way that Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League with only 350 active daily players on Steam gets fresh updates and not Mortal Kombat 1, right?
