Mortal Kombat 1 story ending gave us a glimpse of a multiverse-driven sequel, however, recent leaks are suggesting a different route for the future of the franchise. With Invasions not touching the main game’s ending cutscene and the titan Havik’s arch at all, it’s now up to an unannounced Mortal Kombat 1 story DLC to wrap up the narrative. And of course, with year 2 of Mortal Kombat 1, the Kombat Pack 2 is probably coming our way.
A prominent Mortal Kombat dataminer on X known as thethiny has recently posted new information regarding the upcoming year 2 Mortal Kombat 1 content. As it turns out, MK1 is getting the same treatment as MK11 with its Aftermath DLC, where 5 new story chapters are added to the game.
According to thethiny, an insider contacted him days ago regarding this leak, using the NetherRealm Studios Mobile Team layoff news as a subject of legitimacy. So with that in mind, maybe we could take the following info with less amount of salt until the official announcements.
So it’s assumed that Mortal Kombat 1 will have plans for the San Diego Comic-Con on July 25, revealing new trailers of its upcoming content. As leaked, the Mortal Kombat 1 story DLC will have 3 new characters, just like we had Fujin, Nightwolf, and Shang Tsung in MK11‘s Aftermath expansion.
This could be the Kombat Pack 2 for Mortal Kombat 1 in year 2, including three MK-related fighters and 3 guests joining the game. As for the characters, the leak suggests that Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot are the main kombatants we’re looking for in Kombat Pack 2.
According to the leaks, Mortal Kombat 1 story DLC releases in September 2024. It has something to do with Mileena “changing into something else,” and when we have Cyrax and Sektor as main fighters, the narrative could lean toward the reign of the Cyber Lin Kuei.
As with every other leak about any other game, take this piece of info with a grain of salt. But if this is really what’s about to happen, then still, we’ll be watching the narrative going forward in Fire God Liu Kang’s timeline, not reaching titan Havik. Maybe Ed Boon really wants to save that for Mortal Kombat 2? No one knows.
Mortal Kombat 1 is currently available to play on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
