Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios are unleashing a new way to experience Mortal Kombat. In comes Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, a new collection RPG for mobile players. This is merely an announcement from the teams since not much has been disclosed regarding gameplay and narrative. However, fans can sign up for updates to stay in the loop of the game’s development. As for now, there is only the official key art for Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, which is set to arrive sometime next year.

Take the Fight on the Go with Mortal Kombat: Onslaught

From what we know, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught essentially allows players to assemble characters and participate in real-time battles. Villainous forces threaten the realms, and it’s up to us to stop them from committing any heinous acts. It’s a mobile exclusive that will feature a brand new story made entirely by NetherRealm Studios themselves. Although there isn’t much to base narrative assumptions on, the game is equipped with console-quality cinematics. This is an aspect that many mobile players look forward to.

Mortal Kombat Character Lineup

For more context, Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat series co-creator and Chief Creative Officer at NetherRealm, commented on the approach. “We are pushing the boundaries of Mortal Kombat to allow players to experience the franchise in new ways while still staying true to its core visceral nature. With Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, we reimagined Mortal Kombat into a strategic team-based collection RPG with fast-paced, group melee combat that both new and existing fans can enjoy.”

While this may seem vague, it’s clear that the studio is changing up the formula this time around. It’s a new level that NetherRealm is aiming for, different from Mortal Kombat Mobile. In the meantime, we can sign up for updates via the game’s website with our WB Games accounts to see what comes next.

What characters are you expecting to see in Mortal Kombat: Onslaught for mobile, aside from the ones featured in the key art? Be sure to let us know by leaving a comment down below!
