Amazon Prime has dropped the first trailer for its modernization of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s 2005 sexy spy movie. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine lead in the Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot. While the show has not been greenlit for another season, it notably features “Season 1” in the title of the video on YouTube, giving hope that if it sticks with audiences, then we may get more action and espionage.
The premise is that the two take on a spy job, but only with the catch that they have the dream spy live only if they accept an arranged marriage. Unlike the 2005 movie, they must work together on missions while keeping up their cover story as a couple who don’t go on dangerous missions that result in people’s deaths. As they build up their working relationship and a fake romantic one, they start to develop genuine feelings for one another.

Donald Glover continues his deal with Amazon by co-creating Mr. and Mrs. Smith. He reunited with Atlanta writer Francesca as co-creator. The two write with his brother and collaborator, Stephen Glover.
The Mr. and Mrs. Smith trailer teases some of the other cast members in this laundry list of A-listers. The other stars include Paul Dano, Parker Posey, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Alexander Skarsgård, and Sarah Paulson.
The series is a modernized version of the 2005 movie. It was directed by Doug Liman (Chaos Walking) and written by Simon Kinberg (Dark Phoenix). The film went on to have mixed reviews and a box office run of $487 million.
We are only two months out from the series debuting on Amazon Prime Video. It was originally set to release in November, but due to the strikes, it was delayed along with any promotional materials. Now, we have the trailer of Mr. and Mrs. Smith to prepare us for what the Atlanta team has in store for this new interpretation. It will premiere on the streaming service on February 2.
