Legendary comic artist and writer Mike Mignola will be returning to comics later this year with his new Vampire tale titled Mr. Higgins Comes Home. It’s been just about a year since he announced he was taking a break after he ended Hellboy in Hell.
The graphic novel will tell the story of two Vampire hunters to convince Mr. Higgins to return to Castle Golgi, the scene of his wife’s death, and to confront the dark circumstances surrounding it. Mr. Higgins Comes Home has all the characteristics of a classic vampire story, and will be published by Darkhorse and will feature the art of Warwick Johnson, according to i09.
“I’d been a fan of Warwick’s work for a very long time,” Mignola stated. “I met him recently, discovered he had a fondness for sad werewolves, and that got the ball rolling for Mr. Higgins. This one is a very affectionate (and obvious) nod to the old Hammer Dracula films and my favorite vampire film of them all, Roman Polanski’s The Fearless Vampire Killers.”
Mr. Higgins Comes Home looks to be an exciting return for Mignola, as he looks to continue to build off previous successes. Aside from creating Hellboy – including writing the screenplays and working alongside Guillermo Del Toro both films – the American-born artist has written and created art for Marvel and DC and has even worked with Disney as a concept artist.
Mignola makes his return to comics on October 25, as Mr. Higgins Comes Home will hit comic store shelves, with a wider release in bookstores penciled in for the fitting date of October 31, Halloween.
