“It’s not really the brown girls from Jersey City who get to save the world,” Kamala Khan laments in the first Ms. Marvel trailer for Disney+. But that will be changing on Wednesday, June 8th, when Disney+’s latest live-action Marvel TV series hits your screens. Ms. Marvel follows Kamala Khan, which was introduced in 2013 in Marvel Comics. Kamala is a Pakistani American teenager from New Jersey who idolizes Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel. The teenager is an avid gamer and voracious fan-fanfiction scribe. Kamala is a superhero mega-fan with an oversized imagination -particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet she doesn’t feel she fits in at school and sometimes even at home. By 2014, in the comics, Kamala had superhuman abilities, her own solo series, and her own superhero moniker –Ms. Marvel – making her the first Muslim superhero to headline a Marvel comic. See the trailer to the show below.
