Seven ICE agents recently detained a man in West New York, New Jersey, and were widely criticized on social media for their use of excessive force. ICE operations have become a highly contentious topic in America in recent months following the high-profile deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, and the conduct of the country’s immigration authorities is an increasingly alarming concern for many people.
In a video shared on social media, a man can be seen being detained by ICE agents in the streets of West New York. When the footage begins, he is already pinned to the ground by five agents and unable to move. A sixth person then approaches with a taser, points it at the man, and joins the others in restraining him. Moments later, a woman arrives and assists the group, bringing the total to seven agents holding him down.
Obviously, the man offers no resistance, and three more ICE agents appear at the end of the video, approaching the others and talking to them. The identity of the man apprehended by the immigration agents, as well as his current location, is unknown.
ICE Operation in New Jersey Enrages Social Media Users
Footage of the operation enraged folks online, as many criticized ICE for using too many people to capture a single individual: “What a waste of manpower and money.” Another person added, “Do the agents get a bonus if they manage an 8+ dogpile on a single unarmed person? It’s crazy how excited they are to touch someone who’s already fully restrained.”
The agents in the scene were described online as violent and “wildly incompetent.” Apart from the excessive force used in the scene, some social media users were irritated about how operations such as this one look like “an obscene waste of taxpayers’ money.” According to a Redditor who claimed to be a business owner, “I had to have this much manpower to complete one single task, I’d seriously look at finding another way.”
As ICE operations continue across the United States, some commenters stressed the importance of resisting what they described as violence by immigration authorities, pointing to Minnesota as an example of such resistance. Others focused on holding agency personnel accountable for what they view as abuses. One commenter wrote, “I’m going to be mad as hell if these ICE thugs find a way to slip through the cracks and avoid getting punished when the Trump regime is over.”
