MultiVersus hasn’t even come out yet, still being in open beta, and players are already figuring out which characters might be overpowered and which require some help. MultiVersus’s Finn from Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time seems quite strong, and so is in the former category.
Whenever a new fighting game comes out, the very first thing the competitive players hone in on is who the most “broken” character is. Broken defines the most overpowered or unfair character or move in a fighting game.
Fighting against broken characters can be very frustrating. While most of the time it’s just the lack of practice or match-up knowledge, sometimes a character could be too powerful, something the developers might have overlooked.
Balancing fighting games is no easy task, and it seems Finn is getting away with murder in MultiVersus’ multiplayer. Previously players previously found that Bugs Bunny was painfully overpowered, and Bugs did get a nerf from devs. Now Finn’s nerf might be on the horizon.

What Makes Finn So Broken?
Finn has been in the game since the launch of MultiVersus, of course, but he didn’t seem as broken since other characters were just more broken. Taz’s tornado and Bugs’ insane damage quickly come to mind. But with the latter receiving nerfs, Finn is now top dog.
Finn’s moveset in MultiVersus is very creative, but apparently, some of his moves are a bit too easy to spam. Other moves in Finn’s arsenal are very good at trading with opponents, giving him the upper hand.
Namely, Finn’s bag attack seems to have a very large hitbox and is too difficult to avoid while being too easy to trade with. It seems very likely that this attack will receive some changes soon, along with some of his other attacks that players are having trouble with.
How MultiVersus Devs Should Handle This
Whenever players have trouble with any specific move or character, they are quick to demand nerfs, and the same goes for MultiVersus‘ Finn. But that does not always make sense. Sometimes devs need to let that move stay in the game’s meta for a few months before players figure out how to deal with it.
At the end of the day, it’s up to Player First Games to decide whether this backlash deserves intervention or not. But it is very likely that Finn’s bag is about to get a bit smaller with a future nerf.
In other fighting game news, Evo 2022 is just around the corner, and Sony just announced some of its plans for the event. MultiVersus will get a bigger following after it comes out of its open beta post-Evo 2022.
