Can’t get enough horror goodness this Halloween season? V Publishing and Two Star Games have announced the third chapter of their psychological horror adventure My Beautiful Paper Smile. This new chapter will feature new mysterious locations, characters, and “horrors to survive”. My Beautiful Paper Smile is available for early access via Steam – the third chapter will be a free update. Two Star Games will be releasing the frightening full four chapters in early 2021.
My Beautiful Paper Smile Story
Set in a surreal, black, and white world, you control one of the masked children who are attempting to break free from a massive underground facility. The children, called the Joyous, are trained to be perfect by domineering “Authorities”. One of the children begins to hear voices in their dreams, leading them to finally plot an escape. The third chapter will reveal more about the supernatural and Kafkaesque world that the Joyous live in. What sort of twisted reality do they reside in?
My Beautiful Paper Smile uses a simple point-and-click mechanic, allowing you to interact with and explore the dark world, equip strange artifacts and solve esoteric puzzles. You can either use stealth to overcome otherworldly threats or if you’re feeling brave, you can confront them. It is an atmospheric horror that will get under your skin as opposed to just throwing jumpscares at the screen. The world of My Beautiful Paper Smile is full of mysteries and it will be up to you to find the whole truth. There will be clues – but don’t expect to be spoon-fed answers.
My Beautiful Paper Smile is hand-crafted by indie developer Two Star Games, a one-man show starring Gavin Eisenbeisz. The game’s graphics are all hand-drawn – with the digitalized pencil-sketch art wrapped around a polygon environment. It was developed using Unreal Engine 4 and is a “testament to what one person can do” in indie game development.
Indeed, it is a “world of dark mystery, where only fools seek the truth behind everything”. Will you be helping the Joyous escape in My Beautiful Paper Smile? What other horror games have you been playing this Halloween season? Let me know in the comments!
