Independent studio Lunar Games has lifted the veil on My Father Lied, a first-person, point-and-click mystery infused with ancient mythology and eerie Lovecraftian undertones. Set to launch on PC via Steam in 2025, the game invites players into a slow-burn narrative filled with unsettling secrets, intricate puzzles, and a deeply personal story.
A free demo is available now on Steam, offering an early look at protagonist Huda’s search for answers surrounding her father’s decades-old disappearance. The newly released trailer also teases the game’s haunting aesthetic, blending hand-drawn cutscenes with immersive 360° environments.
A Mystery Rooted in Myth
Inspired by 7,000 years of Mesopotamian history, My Father Lied balances an emotional family drama with ancient enigmas that feel both timeless and deeply personal. According to creator Ahmed Alameen, the game was born out of a fascination with these long-forgotten myths:
“I fell in love with these ancient myths and felt compelled to bring them to life. With 360° visuals, optional ‘mighty puzzles,’ and an emotional core story, we hope players will uncover secrets that feel both timeless and deeply personal.”
The game’s design embraces both accessibility and complexity. While its core narrative is built around exploration and discovery, those who seek deeper challenges can tackle optional “mighty puzzles”—riddles that reward dedicated players with hidden lore and voice recordings.
Key Features
- 360° Immersive Environments – The game blends 2D art with expansive 360° imagery, creating an atmospheric experience without demanding high-end PC specs.
- Mighty Puzzles – Optional, challenging puzzles that reveal hidden recordings and deepen the mystery for those who choose to dig further.
- Emotional, Lore-Heavy Narrative – A story that intertwines family secrets with Mesopotamian mythology, unfolding through eerie discoveries and unexpected twists.
- Hand-Drawn Cutscenes & Original Soundtrack – Carefully crafted animations and a unique score heighten the game’s dramatic tension.
Kickstarter and Future Plans
Lunar Games has also launched a Kickstarter campaign, giving backers the chance to shape My Father Lied’s development. Early supporters can secure an exclusive Valentine’s Day discount, while higher-tier rewards include an in-game voice cameo, a replica of the Royal Game of Ur, or beta access.
If the campaign reaches its final stretch goal, the developers will expand Huda’s journey with a DLC titled My Father Promised, introducing new puzzles and deeper mysteries guided by player feedback.
I’ve got my eye on My Father Lied, and with a free demo already up on Steam, I can’t wait to dive in. The mix of eerie atmosphere, ancient mythology, and brain-teasing puzzles is right up my alley. If you’re into slow-burn mysteries with deep lore and a few unsettling surprises, this one looks like it’s worth checking out.
